Fly Fishing the Southeast

About Dillon

My name is Dillon Lancaster, I was born and raised in Buford, Georgia, right near the dam. My dad had my brother and me on the water as soon as we could hold a rod, and from then on fishing and hunting have been the center of my life and that’s about as good as it gets!

Fishing runs deep in our family; my dad obviously made a lasting impression on the two of us. I’ve been guiding now for over six years now and have had many unique opportunities. My brother’s the fishing manager at Orvis in Buckhead while I’ve spent well over a thousand days on the water across Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina: trying to perfect the art of catching any and every species available throughout the southeast.

I started guiding with Chris at River Through Atlanta in 2020 and have learned a lot about the river and how to not only put people on fish but to also provide excellent customer service. Chris played a huge role in allowing me to have the opportunity to guide full time and I am very grateful for that. I guide through Chris’ permit for any and all trips inside the Chattahoochee River National Park.

Georgia is special though because we have year-round trout and striper fishery, which is unique to no other states. Trout, striper, bass, musky, carp, gar; you name it; no matter when you’re free, there’s always something worth chasing.

I take pride in wanting to catch fish just as badly as my clients. I enjoy fishing hard and grinding it out.  I always make every effort to put us in the best possible situation to be successful while being ethical, courteous, and fly fishing the “right way”.

Guided trips aren’t an everyday luxury, and I don’t take that lightly at Lancaster Fly Fishing. I work hard to give every client an experience they’ll remember and want to come back to. I’ve been lucky to learn from some incredible anglers along the way, and I’ll never stop learning or pushing myself to be better on the water. My goal is simple: be the best guide I can be and help people catch amazing fish on the fly. More than anything, I want to build long-term relationships, not just fill the calendar.

I feel what separates me from others is the understanding of this, combined with high experience and knowledge of the water. I always try to surround myself with people who are of the same mindset as me. I have had the pleasure of being mentored by people like Rob Smith, Henry Cowen, Gary Merriman, Chris Scalley, Charles Imwalle, and more. There will never be a day that I stop learning, and I aim to one day be the best at fishing and guiding all species on fly.

“There are a lot of young guides getting into “the business” over the last few years and Dillon is easily one of the best in my opinion. Works hard, knows his fisheries and is simply fun to be in the boat with!”

At The Fish Hawk, we only work with the best. I met Dillon at the shop when he first started guiding. Over the years, I’ve grown to know him and his family very well. Dillon is at the top of our list for anyone who is looking for a guided trip. We want our customers and friends to be in good hands and we know he will take great care of you and put you on fish, whatever species that may be.
